From Ramp Education to Ramp Coaching: Founder’s Message

2023 marks a major transition for Ramp. You will notice our name has changed from Ramp Education to Ramp Coaching, as we now offer coaching for adults.

Covid, as difficult and challenging as it has been, offered an opportunity for many people to question the paths they were on: “The Big Quit”, the rise of Gap Years, and so many people looking for greater fulfillment in life, relationships, and career. The world is experiencing a turn toward a greater interest in basic fulfillment and flourishing. Many people are seeking coaching as a means to greater well-being and purpose. People grow from the coaching process because dialogue amplifies self-awareness and supports you in giving yourself permission to take steps in the direction of the things you want in, and for, your future.

Coaching helps people through transitions. Whether you are on the verge of retirement and reconsidering your purpose, a high school junior starting the college process, 10 years into a career you aren’t sure is right for you, or a parent at mid-life thinking about the impending empty nest, Ramp provides a context and space to work on where you are going next.

Meet the Coaches

John Giordano, Ph.D., M.F.A., founded Ramp in 2016. He is a certified Co-Active coach (CPCC), a certified Designing Your Life coach, and an IECA Professional Member, the gold standard for educational consultants. John came to coaching and educational consulting after 30 years of college teaching in the visual arts, humanities, and community engagement. He holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies and an MFA in painting. John takes a creative approach to the coaching experience; he sees personal growth and human flourishing as a creative process that everyone can access, regardless of age or background.

John has developed numerous early-college, pre-college, and college-support programs for first-year college students. Because these programs often included built-in support for the college application process, John was inspired to start Ramp as a way to help young people discover how they tick so they get on the right post-secondary pathway. Now Ramp focuses on helping people of all ages find their way forward.

John is a part-time lecturer at the Tufts University Experimental College and a member of the doctoral faculty at Union Institute & University, where he teaches courses in Design Thinking, Visual Culture, and the Creative Process. He also coaches students working on their doctoral dissertations.
